Surfing in Sri Lanka

A comparably small, tropical island with an opposite east-west monsoon season, Sri Lanka has two distinct seasons on either side of the island. November to April brings morning offshore winds to the western side, centered around Hikkaduwa, where beach and reefs overshadow.

May to October brings the same conditions to the east centered around Arugam Bay, where the occasional reef and a profusion of long, sand points offers approximately unchallenging but consistent waves. The waves at Arugam bay are from the same swells which regularly sweep up the Indian Ocean

Shaky about where you could find a board? Well, there are many places on the coastline that rent out boards for specific periods of time for a simple fee. Alternatively, you could ask your local tour operator to organize a board for you.
